Charles A. “Chuck” McLaran, 85, passed away peacefully on April 2, 2019, in Eugene, OR. Chuck is survived by his wife of 63 years, Julia “Kathy” Thomas; daughter Joan Kerfoot of Eugene, OR; son Daniel and spouse Lisa of Litchfield Park, AZ; grandson Christopher McLaran and spouse Niki of McMinville, OR and their kids, Lauren, Ava and Davis; granddaughter Katie McLaran Zimmerlie and spouse Chance of Cottage Grove, OR with their kids Liam, Wyatt and Zoe; granddaughter Jennifer Kerfoot of Seattle, WA; granddaughter Emilie McLaran Malone and spouse Tyler, granddaughter Ashlie McLaran and grandson Samuel McLaran who also live in Litchfield Park, AZ.
He is also survived by nieces Tena Margaret Wahrmund Hehn of DeSoto, TX; Judy Wahrmund Chamberlin and spouse Clif of Little Elm, TX; Honi Ann Wahrmund Boudreaux and spouse Glen of Houston, TX; Martha Louise Arnold Stilwell of Texarkana, TX and nephews Tom Arnold and spouse Mary Nell of Texarkana, TX; and Hank Wahrmund and spouse Dennis LaCaze of College Station, TX.
Chuck was preceded in death by his son Michael of Salem, OR and his sisters Tena Warhmund of Houston, TX and Julia Much, of Tucson, AZ.
Chuck was born July 6, 1933 in Dallas, TX to Shelby and Myrtle Sawyer McLaran. After serving in the Korean War, Chuck graduated from Texas A&M University in 1960 majoring in English. He joined the FBI July 17, 1962, eventually settling in Oceanside, CA where he spent 26 years in the Bureau.
In the winter of 1989, Chuck and Kathy moved to Albany, OR where Chuck served 12 years as the Mayor. Chuck’s involvement in the community extended to many organizations during his lifetime. He was an active Rotarian, a member of the Sul Ross Masonic Lodge 1300 in College Station, TX and served as Venerable Master of the San Diego and Imperial Scottish Rite.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, April 16, 2019 at 2 pm at the United Presbyterian Church in Albany, OR, where Chuck and Kathy were active members. Chuck was very involved serving on various church committees as well as serving as a Deacon and Elder. The family welcomes Chuck’s friends to attend a reception at the church fellowship hall immediately following the service.
In memory of Chuck’s passion for community service, the family requests (in lieu of flowers) that you give to a charity of your choice in honor of Chuck’s life.
