Dale Loyal Friesen

Born in Seattle, Washington
Resided in Albany, Oregon

Dale Loyal Friesen, age 61, passed away after a long battle with Pick’s disease on Saturday, December 16, 2017, at Timberwood Court Memory Care Community in Albany, OR.

He is survived by his children, Dawson Friesen (Portland, OR), Desiree Meis (Seattle, WA), Faith Friesen (Santa Barbara, CA), Jenna Friesen (Santa Barbara, CA), their mother, Leslie Friesen (Santa Barbara, CA), his parents, Loyal and Carol Friesen (Albany, OR), his brother, Kevin Friesen (San Jose, CA), and his sisters, Sharien Hinton (Santa Rosa, CA) and LaRhonda Bozzo (Coulterville, CA).

Dale was born in Seattle, WA, on July 20, 1956. Moving at a young age to the San Francisco bay area, he grew up playing sports, a passion that would consume him all his life. His family later moved to Modesto, CA, where he graduated from Grace Davis High School in 1974. Dale was very active at First Baptist Church, Modesto, where he sang and acted in choirs and dramas, taught Sunday School and most exciting for him, participated in and led sports ministries for young people and adults.

Eventually relocating and settling in Dallas, OR, it was significant to Dale to raise his family in the same town where much of his extended family had lived and was raised. Working for Schwan’s Food Delivery and later driving for Cherriots Public Transportation, Dale loved to drive and help people. That value was further expressed in his serving as usher and greeter at both Salt Creek Baptist Church in Dallas and later at Salem Alliance Church where he was a regular volunteer both at church and at Broadway Commons. As Dale’s health deteriorated and he lost the ability to speak, the community where he lived, immediately surrounding Broadway Commons in Salem, took tremendous care to look out for him, assist with his needs, and always receive his almost daily infectious “thumbs-up” greeting. Dale loved people. His apartment was a huge mural of photos of his children, his extended family, and basically anyone who sent him a photo Christmas card or prayer support letter.

Dale is preceded in heaven by many family members and loved ones, most notably his mother, Olive, and his sister, Melodie. He will be laid to rest next to his grandparents at Salt Creek Cemetery in Dallas, OR. There will be a service celebrating his life on Saturday, January 13, 2018, at 2:30 PM, at Salt Creek Baptist Church, Dallas, OR. All are welcome.
