Obituary

March 4, 1965---May 12, 2018

Dale Melcher, 53, of Albany passed away Saturday peacefully with the support of Lumina Hospice and his family at his home after courageously battling leukemia for nearly seven years. Born in Corvallis to Duane and Shirley Melcher, he lived most of his life in Albany and graduated from South Albany High School in 1983. Dale met his wife Trisha Brooks in early 1996 and they were married on May 16th, 1998 in the living room of their current home.

The largest part of Dale’s career was spent as a corrections officer. He worked at the Oregon State Penitentiary for 7 years and at Mill Creek Correctional Facility taking work crews all over Oregon for the next 13 years. His goal was to always make a positive impact on everyone he met.

Dale was crazy about his toys, especially anything with a motor. He and Trisha enjoyed karaoke and had many rewarding years sharing their hobby with others. He provided sound and lighting support to local bands and was also a “jack-of-all trades” who never hesitated to lend a hand to family, friends or neighbors. Dale was an amazing dad who was known not only for strength and stubbornness, but also for being fair and having a big heart. He was extremely proud of his family and treasured the close relationships he kept with the people he loved.

Dale is survived by his wife Trisha; daughters Sarah and Mandy; son Zach and fiancé Ronalee Sherman; parents Duane and Shirley Melcher; mother-in-law Nancy Brooks; sister-in-law Deanna Grove and fiancé Kevin Cambern; sister-in-law Lorie Hamm and husband William (all of whom reside in Albany); and brother Scott and wife Jayne of Stafford, Virginia; as well as many nieces, nephews and other family.

Dale will be dearly missed and remembered well by every person whose life he touched with his booming voice and charismatic personality.

At the family’s request no services are planned. Online condolences for the family may be posted at www.fisherfuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dale’s memory to Lumina Hospice & Palliative Care or to Samaritan Evergreen Hospice.
