She was predeceased by her husband in 2005, a son, Earl, and her brother Earl Houghtaling. Survivors include two sons, Dale (Paulette) and Larry (Kathy) and daughter-in-law Sue (Jake) Lamp. Doris enjoyed her 10 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
Doris and her husband raised their family in Eureka, California. The family was active in the First Covenant Church of Eureka for many years and Doris enjoyed being part of the Tabitha women's circle. For 17 years she worked as the school secretary at the Marshall School and was honored by the PTA for her many contributions of service to the organization.
During retirement she and her husband made several trips to Massachusetts to assist Earl with home remodeling. A highlight was their trip to the Holy Land and Sweden, her husband's homeland. Retirement years were the most fun of any time in their lives she said. She enjoyed baking, especially apple pies. There were always freshly baked treats on hand.
In 1998 Doris and Jack moved to Albany, OR to be near family. Doris' last 5 years were spent at Quail Run, an assisted living facility in Albany. She was well cared for and enjoyed her friends. A Memorial Service for Doris will be held in the Quiet Room at Quail Run (2525 SE 47th Avenue, Albany), Friday, May 12, at 3:00 pm with a reception following the service. Interment will be in Paradise Cemetery, Paradise, CA.
Memorials will be received for First Covenant Church and may be sent to Fisher Funeral Home, 306 Washington Street SW, Albany, OR 97321.
