Dorothy Maxine Chapman was called to be with the Lord ending a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease on December 5, 2011 at Brookdale Memory Care Facility
in Salem. Dorothy was born June 1, 1921 in Corvallis, Oregon, daughter of George Franklin and Frances Willard (Mitchell) Lambert. She also lived in Lewisburg, Yachats and graduated from high school in Waldport, OR before returning to Corvallis.

On July 20, 1940 in Corvallis, OR, she married George Louis Chapman in a double wedding ceremony with George's sister Anita and husband Ralph McGinnis. Dorothy and George resided in Corvallis several years before moving to Lebanon. George and Dorothy owned an electrical Contracting business and moved to Albany in 1953. Upon retirement in 1987, they moved to Waldport, OR where they resided until 2000 when health issues brought them back to Albany.

Dorothy was a loving and nurturing mother, grandmother and great grandmother, devoting herself to caring for and loving them with her passion. Having the grandkids stay was a total joy for her. She also enjoyed gardening, bowling, playing bridge and entertaining guests in her home, attending the grandchildren's sporting events and holidays. Christmas was always her favorite time of year. She also enjoyed family vacations, traveling and especially long walks on the beach searching for sand dollars. She had many close and dear friends. She was a favorite to her caregivers, always smiling and loving each one of them.

Dorothy is survived by her children: Robert and wife Elaine Chapman of Albany, daughter Linda and husband Buck Edwards of Albany, Grandchildren Craig and wife Tina Hughson of Lebanon, Todd and wife Shellee Chapman of Albany, Kerri and husband Eric of Salem and Aimee Chapman of Corvallis; Great Grandchildren Jennifer and husband Seth Tigner of Brownsville, Amanda Hughson of Coos Bay, Paige Garcia of Salem, Alexis and Ashton Chapman of Albany, and Sydney Textrum of Salem, Great Great Grandchildren Gracie and Wyatt Tigner of Brownsville, Eric, Terry and Colton Edwards of Turner, Kelly and Brody Gobler of Arizona and Andrew Warren of Albany.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband George, Aunt May Wilson and sister Mariam Melcher of Brookings.

A graveside service will take place at Oak Lawn Memorial Park in Corvallis at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, December 7, 2011. Memorial may be made to the Special Olympics od Emanuel Hospital Neo Natal Unit in care of Fisher Funeral Home, 306 Washington St. SW, Albany, OR 97321.
