Elsie Jost

April 28, 2020
Born in Corn, Oklahoma
Resided in Albany, Oregon

Elsie Jost passed away peacefully on 4/28/2020, at the age of 97, at her care home in Albany, Oregon. Elsie was born to Fred and Elizabeth Engel in Corn, Oklahoma. She was the 2nd to the youngest of 8 siblings. She was raised in Corn and graduated from Corn High School in 1941.
On 4/18/1943, she married Marvin Jost, in Bend, Oregon, and they eventually made their home back in Oklahoma. They had 2 children and were married for 49 years (until Marvin passed away in 1992).
In 1954, they moved to Hayward, California, where Marvin was the pastor of Huntwood Baptist Church for 15 years. In 1969 they moved to Albany, Oregon, where Marvin was the pastor of North Albany Baptist Church for 17 years.
Elsie was a devoted Christian, had been active in the church, and enjoyed being a pastor’s wife and homemaker. She had many hobbies and interests, including singing, sewing, crocheting, knitting, painting and playing cards. She also loved to cook and entertain guests in her home. She was a very creative and talented artist and created many beautiful oil paintings. She had a great sense of humor, a sweet smile and a big loving heart for her family and friends. She was loved by all who knew her and will be greatly missed, but we are comforted in knowing that she is in a very happy place now.
Elsie is survived by her son, Dwayne; daughter, Marla; granddaughter, Molly; and great granddaughter, Ava.
A memorial service will be held at a later date at North Albany Community Church. At Elsie’s request, in lieu of flowers, a donation can be made either to North Albany Community Church or to Samaritan’s Purse.
