He grew up in an orphanage in Omaha with siblings Robert, Jack, Sandra, Dorine, Sheryl and Daryl. Leroy and his siblings were placed for adoption or foster care at a young age and Leroy was able to stay in contact with Dorine his entire life. As a child, he would spend weekends and summer vacations at her home with her new family, the Cermack’s.

He went to live with parents, Anna and Arnold Hoegermeyer, on their farm in Beemer, Nebraska when he was in high school. In 1954 Leroy enlisted in the US Air Force and served until 1956.

He married Margaret Morton on December 21, 1957 and together raised five children Deborah, Michael, Jeri, Kimberly and Ronald. Leroy searched for his family and was able to reunite with his mother Marie and stepfather William Nordyke, stepsister Wilma and stepbrother William. He reunited with his brothers and sisters in Las Vegas in 1978 at the home of Robert Floro.

Leroy enjoyed spending time with his family, boating, camping, fishing, sports and photography. He was an avid bowler and participated in several tournaments including Reno and Las Vegas. Leroy and son Mike won Doubles State Champions in 1992 at Albany Lanes.

Survivors include his wife Margie; daughter Debbie (Tim) Mosher and their children Kevin (Sarah), Kathie (Jeff), and Jamie (Rob) and great grand-children Donna, Declan, Porter, Joshua, Brooklyn, Austin, and Lillian; son Mike (Jan) Koenig and their children Chad (Katie), and Nick, and great grand-child Sydney; daughter Jeri (preceded in death) and her son Keith (Samantha) and great grand-children Madison and Andrew; daughter Kim (Darby) Randklev and their children Casey and Christin (Sean), and great grand-children Kyleigh and Ashlynn; and son Ron Koenig.
