Obituary

Rosemary Frances Drew Weatherby
July 20, 1927 - October 22, 2019

Rosemary Weatherby, 92, of Albany, passed away at the Samaritan Albany General Hospital. She was surrounded by loving family and prayers from relatives and friends at a distance. The support of hospital staff was outstanding.
The daughter of Roland Monarch and Catherine (Dougherty) Drew, she was born in Evanston, Illinois. As the youngest of 10 children, she developed into a fine lady with a quick wit and a mischievous twinkle in her eye. She worked as a talented telephone operator while attending school.
She married James Weatherby on April 18, 1946 in Las Vegas, Nevada. James was the love of her life and had served in the Navy in the Pacific during World War II. They settled first in Chicago with their three children. When told that one of them needed a drier climate, she drove them cross country to Phoenix, Arizona then to Southern California when her husband was transferred. Rosemary was an outstanding cook, homemaker, manager in retail clothing and a hospital volunteer.
She had a flair for fashion and provided clothing for her extended family. She opened her home generously to relatives. She was the glue that held family ties together across the country.
She loved to travel, seeing sights from Russia, Europe, Mexico and Asia. Christmas was the high point of her year. She took pride in creating a magnificent Christmas display of a miniature town and people for family and neighbors to enjoy. Her funeral will fittingly be on the feast of St. Nicholas (aka Santa Claus)!
Rosemary is survived by her sons, James, and John; daughter, Thelma Adams; grandchildren, Judy Zerzan-Thul, Julia Weatherby, Mary Wachsmuth, Catherine Brites, Jennifer Jess, Shane and Jeremy Weatherby and great grandchildren, Hannah, Mario, Caridad, Amelia, Samuel, Davonte, Shaniya, Quentin, Jasper and Matthew.
She was preceded by her husband James Sr., brothers, George, Francis, Harold, James, Roland, Edward; sisters, Ruth, Dorothy and Annabelle, and grandchild Jennifer Ann Hamilton.
There will be a 10:30 am Rosary followed by a 11:00 am Mass at St. Mary’s Church, 815 Broadalbin St. S.W., Albany, Oregon on Friday December 6th. A sharing of memories will follow at a reception in the Gathering Space. An Irish Wake will be arranged on her birthday in the Chicago area by lots of loving relatives.
