Born in Klamath Falls, Oregon
Resided in Salem, Oregon

Ruth M Dalen (Briscoe), age 91, passed into the arms of our lord early on the morning of October 11, 2018. Mom was born to Jack and Alice Briscoe in Klamath Falls on May 21, 1927, competing for everyone's attention that day with Charles Lindbergh landing in Paris. Her early years were spent in the upper Klamath Basin close to her grandparents, aunts and uncles, and many cousins. The family moved to Lakeview in the late 30's where she graduated from high school in 1945. An avid Beaver Fan, she attended Oregon State College, graduating in 1949. Returning to Lakeview to work, she also played organ and piano in the Presbyterian Church. She and John Pierre Dalen performed together at weddings where he was engaged to sing.

Ruth and John married in 1953, moving to Albany in 1956 for John to pursue the life insurance business. In 1962 we moved to Germany, John going ahead to find housing. Ruth and their 3 small boys followed a month later. We camped as a family throughout Europe. Mom and Dad also took a few trips without the boys, visiting Venice and even West Berlin soon after the wall was erected.

Returning to Albany in 1965, John resumed his insurance career in Oregon with Ruth managing the books until they retired in 1988. Mom was a church organist for nearly 50 years at St. Alban's Episcopal Church and its predecessor St. Peter's. She also accompanied sons Bruce, Peter, and John at music competitions in school.

Ruth and John loved to square dance, attend Albany Civic Theater and local musical events, and especially musical events where their sons performed. In retirement, they camped around the western U.S. and returned many times to Europe to visit son Peter.

Ruth is survived by son John (Lori) of Salem, Oregon, and Peter of Munich, Germany; sister Helen Kennedy of Olympia, Washington; 4 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren, and a number nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by husband John, and son's Richard (1954) and Bruce (1997).

We miss her dearly and invite those who knew her to a memorial service at St. Alban's Episcopal Church in Albany, Oregon, on December 27th at 11 am.
