Ted married Delores Wallace in Valsetz and they had three children. They later divorced. Ted drove log trucks and eventually owned and operated his own log truck. Ted raced boats, go-carts, and motorcycles. He also owned and flew airplanes. He owned and moored boats on the Oregon coast for salmon fishing. Ted was an avid fisherman, and especially liked to fish for big trout with his wife Janet on Klamath Lake, and fishing for salmon on the Yaquina River with his fishing partner Don.
In 1990, Ted married Janet Doe. They enjoyed snow-birding, motorcycle riding and fishing.
